Yesterday's post about academic year basketball evaluations included a note about men's basketball evaluations during the new March contact period. A staff interp issued on February 22 prohibited men's basketball evaluations from occurring at sites other than a prospect's educational institution during the March contact period.
The staff interp has been changed to allow men's basketball coaches to evaluate during the March contact period at scholastic events that are not held on the campus of the PSAs' educational institutions. The obvious examples are state high school basketball championships which are often held in large, public arenas.
LSDBi has an educational column about basketball evaluations during the academic year. One example of how the new rules about the men's basketball March contact period apply: coaches may not evaluate at the New York City Public School Athletics League (PSAL) Championships being held this weekend (March 18) at Madison Square Garden because the event is taking place at a site other than the involved prospects' educational institutions.
UPDATE: Read this, too. It's important.
